Services We Offer

Towne & Country Veterinary Hospital
is a full-service facility. When you contact our office, one of our veterinary trained receptionists will help you by scheduling an appointment, checking on your hospitalized pet's status, answering your questions, or if necessary directing your inquiries to other appropriate personell.  When you enter our office you will see a spacious, clean waiting and reception area.  If your pet is scheduled for an appointment you and he or she will be seen into one of our six exam rooms by a staff veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician depending on the type of appointment scheduled.  If hospitalization is required your pet will be admitted and made comfortable in one of four separate ward areas.  Please feel free to ask a staff member for a tour if you wish to see where your pet will be staying.  To provide the complete care your pet may need, you will find our practice provides laboratory, radiology, endoscopy, ultrasound, surgery, regular hospital and isolation wards with ICU capability, and a surgery suite for soft tissue and orthopedic procedures all under one roof.  Towne & Country Veterinary Hospital is an advanced general practitioner for your pet. Our office may not provide CAT scans, radiation therapy, bone plating, or brain surgery but if your pet requires more advanced care than our office can provide, we will gladly refer you to the appropriate specialists at your request.

SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS Appointments are scheduled for routine well visits and problems for dogs, cats, and exotics (avian, reptile, mammalian). "In-house consults" between our staff veterinarians are performed frequently to provide your pet with the best possible care. Our licensed veterinary technicians also have scheduled appointments for nail trims, anal gland expression, suture removals, and diagnostic tests ordered by the veterinarian.  Please remember, a technician cannot diagnose or prescribe medications so if you feel your pet is due for a physical examination or has a problem, schedule your appointment with the veterinarian and not the technician.

VACCINATIONS  Vaccination is a necessary foundation block for protecting your pet's good health. Since every pet's lifestyle is different, what your pet needs will be based on legal requirements, risk of exposure, and your concerns.

PHARMACY  For your pet's safety, the shortest delay in starting treatment, and your convenience, we provide most medications via our office pharmacy.  If your pet has been seen within the last twelve months and is on daily or monthly medications, you may be eligible for refills by mail.  When necessary we will "script out" medications.

LABORATORY- IN HOUSE  To obtain the quickest possible test results, on-site laboratory services are provided.  These tests include fecals, serum chemistry and electrolytes, CBC, feline leukemia and AIDS, Parvo virus, slide cytology (needle aspirates, mite identification,...), heartworm testing, urinalysis, ....

LABORATORY- OUTSIDE REFERENCE  When time is not a critical factor, many blood tests can be performed by outside reference labs. Not only does this provide us with additional tests not available in-house but many times it is more economical to allow a large reference lab perform these tests.  Besides routine screening tests, we utilize outside reference labs for specialized testing such as thyroid, cortisol, urinary stone analysis, GI absorption assays, histopathology,...

RADIOLOGY  X-rays are taken for any number of soft tissue, cardiac, and orthopedic conditions. Digital radiography was added to our diagnostic department in 2006.  This enables us to take and read an x-ray within minutes.  Digital radiography also enhances our patient's x-rays for better evaluation and allows us to transmit these images over the internet and burn copies to CD when needed.  We use anesthesia only when absolutely necessary and safe for your pet.

ULTRASONOGRAPHY  By converting sound waves into pictures, ultrasonography allows us to evaluate the condition of various organs without the use of radiation.  Whereas an x-ray is a single picture, ultrasound is a movie.  Ultrasonography can be used to detect tumors, for pregnancy determination, evaluation of fetal health, and guide needle aspirates and bladder taps.

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY   In cats especially, an X-ray alone is a poor indicator of cardiac health.  We use echocardiography, Doppler blood pressure readings, and X-rays to determine the extent of heart disease and need for treatment in both cats and dogs.

REPRODUCTION Pre-breeding consults, fertility examiniations, artificial insemination, pregnancy monitoring with ultrasound, and if necessary, Caesarean sections are performed when nature just won't take its natural course.

BEHAVIORAL CONSULTS  Sometimes you just need to think like a dog or a cat to understand why they do what they do.  Is your pet really a spiteful juvenile delinquent who rules the roost?  Once medical causes have been ruled out as a cause of bad behavior, we might just be able to help you understand your pet's point of view.  When indicated we can provide medical and behavioural therapy modification programs.

ENDOSCOPY Endoscopy can be used to examine the upper respiratory tract, upper GI tract, and colon.  During the examination biopsy samples can be obtained, tissues and secretions for cytology and cultures collected, and small foreign bodies removed.

DENTISTRY  How many people actually brush their pet's teeth?  Dental disease can lead to food avoidance due to pain and mouth bacteria can invade the bloodstream attacking the heart valves, kidneys, and other internal organs.  Dental advice, dental x-rays, ultrasonic cleaning, tooth sealers, and dental products are all available to you for your pet.

NUTRITION This is another of those important foundation blocks for good health.  What kind, how often, how much food to feed are the questions of most concern for a youngster.  Diet becomes even more important as your pet ages and health problems such as kidney failure, liver disease, bladder stones, diabetes, and cancer become a concern.  We carry several lines of prescription diets for the special needs of our patients and all prescription diets are full money back returnable if your pet refuses to eat the food for any reason.

SOFT TISSUE SURGERY  The most common surgeries performed are spays, neuters, and laceration repairs.  Our surgeons can also remove bladder stones, intestinal foreign bodies, and many abnormal growths and tumors.  Corrective surgeries for hernias, eyes, ears, and even redesigning a "tomcat's plumbing" are possible.  After a consultation with one of our doctors to review the options and expected results of a surgical procedure, our receptionists and veterinary technicians will also help guide you through your pet's pre- and post- surgical period.

LASER SURGERY  Our most recent addition in 2007 is the ability to perform many soft tissue surgeries using laser.  Laser is the use of an intense beam of light to cut through tissues and precisely erase cells without the use of a scalpel blade.  For your pet this means less bleeding, swelling, and pain from surgery.  The option of performing your pet's surgery with laser is now available.

ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY  Several orthopedic services are provided by our office.  These include declawing, bone pinning, splinting, hip surgery, cruciate ligament and patellar luxation repair, and amputation when there is no other reasonable alternative.  Disc surgery, bone plating, and total hip replacement are referred to specialists.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE  We offer acupuncture and Chinese medicine and herbs for those clients who may be interested in adding Eastern medicine to the traditional Western medicine therapy.

ANESTHESIA Each patient is treated as an individual and this is particularly true when anesthetics are used.  The selection of anesthetics is determined by the patient's age, breed, blood test results, and medical condition. Licensed veterinary technicians and veterinarians monitor your pet's response to anesthesia using a combination of respiratory monitors, ECGs, pulse oximeters, and physical observation.

PAIN CONTROL As with anesthestics, pain medications are as individual as the patient.  Analgesics (pain medications)are always a part of every surgical procedure, trauma event, and painful medical condition.  Whether your pet has encountered a Mac truck or is struggling to get up in the morning as he or she ages, we encourage you to discuss your pet's needs and comfort.

HOSPITALIZATION  Our office has four separate hospital wards. Dogs and cats are housed in two separate areas. Pet's with possible communicable diseases are restricted to the isolation area ward.  For critical patients our intensive care area provides constant monitoring, IV pumps, an oxygen cage, and pulse oximetry.

LASER THERAPY  Not to be confused with surgical laser, this type of laser is used to stimulate the healing process, relieve inflammation, fight infection, and reduce pain.  A five minute laser therapy session once or weekly, depending on the condition being treated, can greatly reduce the need for medications.  Strains, sprains, arthritis, wounds, burns, and post-surgical care are only a few of the many indications for the use of laser therapy.
